There were so many new clients I’ve met in the last couple weeks with such diverse looks. These are just a few snapshots from my iPhone of new work. More to come.
Young, Effortless Party Makeup:
I hate when makeup artists overwhelm young clients with too much product. This beautiful girl had a gorgeous set of naturally thick brows, lashes and big eyes! I kept the skin clean with just a touch of Cover FX concealer and buffed a small amount of Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Foundation Powder/ Graftobian Pro Loose Powder mainly through the center of the face. There is no product in her brows (I’m so jealous!) Her eyes are a mix of a couple Makeup forever eyeshadows and used generous coat of L’Oreal Carbon Black Voluminous Mascara. Lips are Becca Cosmetics Beach Tint mixed with Josie Maran Infinity Cream.
Extra Smokey Charcoal eyes
At first glance, this beauty from Qatar had classic features. Creamy skin and soft eyes but we took inspiration from a few Pintrest photos of Arab makeup and came up with this rich smokey eye with a neutral romantic lip. I gave her skin a flawless canvas with Cle De Peau Concealer to highlight, Cover FX Cream Foundation & used Mehron Celebre Pro Foundation to give the face shape. I added Becca Cosmetics Beach tint on her cheeks and added Jane Iredale powder to deepen the contour. On the eyes, Inglot gel liner and Mehron Pressed pigments are all that I used to create a smokey rich look and added a pair of Eyelure lashes. The lips are a combo of Dior and Cinema Secrets lip liners and a polka dot of a Dior Addict lipstick on the center of the lips.
Glam-Mom iconic makeup
These big blue eyes, blonde hair and soft features reminded me of a Disney Princess and her personality was so warm – I had to do an iconic makeup look. Creating a lifted eye look, I used Makeup forever Artist shadows in a few matte shades and highlighted with a sheer wash of Becca Cosmetics Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed to to brighten the inner third of the eyelids and across the top of her cheekbones. I used a precise line of Inglot Gel Eyeliner and lashes to complete the eyes and pressed a small amount of Makeup Forever eyeshadow along the bottom lash line. The skin was prepped with Cover FX Calming Primer then added Bobbi Brown Tinted eye brightener and Cover FX Cream foundation to give an even complexion. On the cheeks is a Matte Bronzer from Cover FX and a blush from Chantecaille.
Modern bronzed bride to be
I’ve obviously been obsessed with Cover FX complexion products and wanted to use the Oil Free Natural Finish Foundation to perfect this bride to be’s skin. This winged look was perfect for her unique eye shape. I used bronzy warm brown eye shadows from Cargo Cosmetics and individual lashes from Kiss Beauty to finish the eyes. This nude lip and peachy blush were the perfect complement to balance this glam face.
There must be something about the familiar Socal sun post a few gloomy weather days that makes me cling to cheerful spring beauty with feminine glossy pink lips and clean radiant skin. I almost never go for the same makeup look multiple times in a one week span but this refreshing contemporary chic spring color story has been my go-to makeup of the day three times in the past seven days. Here are a few favorite products I’ve been using to achieve a dewy complexion & wearable spring lip look.
*** All of the photos in this post feature the products mentioned below for a glowing complexion and glossy pink lips!
An idea Spring complexion should look and feel effortlessly transparent. Of course the right skin care regime including a routine of proper exfoliation provides an easy canvas for overall skin clarity but a key component is the right foundation. Choose a foundation formula that offers coverage without a heavy texture and a natural glowing finish. My current spring complexion picks are Koh Gen Do Aqua Foundation & Chantecaille Future Skin Foundation. Koh Gen Do Aqua Foundation leaves the skin looking flawless with a satin finish and liquid airy feel. It features hydration boosting ingredients like natural vegetable glycerin and algae to extend the feeling of comfort while diffusing imperfections with mineral pigments. Chantecaille Future Skin Foundation is an innovative oil free gel foundation made with ingredients like Chamomile, antioxidants and sea weed to smooth and perfect the skin’s natural appearance. It offers a buildable coverage and photographs beautifully!
For lips there is nothing quite like a soft pink lip to bring a delicate charm to a spring makeup look. Coming from a major lip product junkie, it is difficult to choose a favorite pink lip but a couple current obsessions are Urban Decay Revolution Lipsticks and Too Faced La Creme Color Drenched Lipsticks. Urban Decay’s sleek gun metal packaging houses a high impact pigment paired with a comfortable creamy lip bullet. Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in shade Protest is a perfect pink that marries edgy and femme for a powerful pout. Too Faced La Creme Lipstick formula leaves lips feeling supple and plump with just enough color to brighten any makeup look. Shade Marshmallow Bunny from Too Faced is a sweet pink so perfect for a day to night makeup look. Pair either of these with Chantecaille Luminous Lipgloss in Framboise – a vibrant strawberry hue.
Keep it simple for spring! Will you try this easy makeup look?
Earlier today I was happily asleep but got an urgent wake up from Tessa. She reminded me that I promised her to make scrambled eggs for breakfast last night and to fix her hair with her bangs swept to the side. It occurred to me that I have trained her well and she has become a fashionista or as she likes to call herself “style lady.’ (Her made up super hero who wears sparkly shoes and big accessories.) Last week it was a blue fur vest and a pink flower ring. This week the winner is two little green bows and her hello kitty necklace. She always keeps me wondering what’s next.
Here she is with her favorite sparkly boots and ballet flats with a few of her favorite accessories.
I get asked frequently about what I used on her for hair and bath products since I lean toward eco-friendly and organic ingredients when it comes to my personal care so I thought I would mention 3 products that she and I both love on the daily.
- Bayberry Organic Leave-In Detangler: Although Tessa was blessed with my fine hair it can get a bit knotted and tangled overnight during sleep. I’m not a fan of strong smelling hair products or alcohol heavy ingredient lists especially for my daughter. This spray Detangler is perfect for a quick morning when there’s minimal time to get out the door; it’s made without Sulfates, Parabens, Phthalates, Artificial Fragrances or Artificial Dyes which gives it my personal mommy stamp of approval. There’s a lovely blend of organic oils and plant based ingredients that I feel confident in using on my little girl.
- J R Watkins Body Butter: This time of year especially, dry patches and itchy skin happen on repeat which means her regular lotion doesn’t cut it for the coming months. This body butter comes in many scents (the current one she’s using is Coconut Milk & Honey) that are not too strong. Since this is a rich creamy texture, a very small amount is needed to work its magic and its made with 98.9% natural ingredients including cocoa butter, coconut oil, Shea butter and aloe.
- Burt’s Bee’s Baby Bee Shampoo and Wash: I usually pick up the fragrance free version of this mild bath product. Instead of moisture stripping sulfates that can be very irritating on little bodies, this is made with gentle plant based foaming agents that leave her skin feeling soft. It’s sold in different sizes from travel to the jumbo size with a pump making it a pretty convenient choice for mom’s looking for a versatile bath care option.
Last night I had the pleasure of doing makeup for the LA Live & Lucky Strike Presents Karaoke Runway Gala in Downtown Los Angeles benefiting the St. Baldrick’s Foundation to support the battle against childhood cancers.
All of the models were so sweet and I was flattered to have a line of beauties waiting for me to work some makeup magic on them. It was a challenge doing makeup in an extra dark VIP room but I had help from my sister, Grace and her friend Courtney with a makeshift iPhone flashlight action to make sure my work was on point. There’s always something about the energy of a behind the scenes fashion show that immediately draws me in; every detail is driven by passionate people.
Me with my makeup set up behind the scenes in the VIP room while the models had a meeting with the designers.
Three of the beauties I worked with last night, love the chunky necklaces and printed fabrics.
Dramatic eyes + pale lips was the look of night which meant I reached for my Chantecaille, Urban Decay, Cargo Cosmetics and Dior eye shadows for the perfect smoky eyes and Maybelline Whisper and Laura Geller lipsticks mixed with a little Illamasqua Skin Base Lift concealer on the lips. The skin was matte and flawless thanks to Cover FX Total Cover Cream Foundation, Sleek Makeup Cream to Powder, Illamasqua Skin Base Lift concealer blended with a damp brush spritzed with L’Occitane rosewater facial mist and set the complexion with Makeup Forever High Definition powder. To shape the face I used Dior Matte Bronzer, Jane Iredale Mineral Bronzer, Cover FX Matte Bronzer, Dior Blush in Peechy Keen, Dior Rosy Glow Blush and La Femme Blush in Sienna. To make sure the makeup stayed in place I primed the skin with BECCA Cosmetics Ever Matte Poreless Priming Perfector on the skin, Urban Decay Primer Potion in Eden
and vBeaute Lip Spread on the lips.
photos are mine & shown with no filter. (You can see it was really dark where I was working!)
& a special thank you to my Girl, Christine Thank you for always thinking of me. You’ve seen me grow up from my first days behind the counter to now! You looked fab last night.
While I pretty much live in all black with the exception of frequent gaudy accessories and bold lip colors, this week’s Forever 21 shopping trip had my radar on retro inspired floral prints and bright chiffon.
It’s been nearly 9 months since my last visit to a Forever 21 store somewhere in South Orange County and after a somewhat unpleasant experience it had not appealed to me. This time, the two level Forever 21 in Cerritos was the spot literally getting more than an hour of my time searching the racks for some new wardrobe updates. They were having a 50% off sale on sale which is always lovely!
Although the one downfall I had was escaping the annoyance of too many hi-lo dresses and tops, I committed to 3 lovely dresses without the awkward trendy hemline and a basic black cardigan for work of course.
Here’s what I went home with:
I was also totally impressed with the black and white sleeveless day dresses. The fit and fabric weight was quite expensive looking but I was trying to expand my color spectrum so I passed this time but how cute is the houndstooth and diamond print?
Until next time, Forever 21.
