The highly requested ‘No Makeup Makeup Look’

I’ve added a few excellent pro makeup items to my kit thanks to some awesome PR contacts as well as my own investment in new high-def complexion tools/ products. The number one request on clients especially for bridal events is flawless skin and a polished, no makeup-makeup complexion which is hard to achieve but so timeless.

Aside from proper skin prep, the ‘no makeup-makeup’ look revolves around skin that looks like skin and camouflaging imperfections without pounds of makeup. Ahem ‘cake face.’ So I typically choose multiple complexion mediums from color corrector, foundations, concealers and loose powders but I use minimal product and close attention to detail when it comes to blending. Blending is Key!

Now here’s a peek at some new additions to my pro kit:

RCMA Foundation is used on Movie, TV, Film, etc and has been noted as a must have for pro makeup artists internationally! High pigmentation packed into a lightweight texture idea for long wear. The RCMA makeup line is completely mineral oil free and made in small batches by true makeup artisans who are all about quality ingredients.

Mehron Makeup HD Celebre Pro Highlight and Contour Palette is a dream to blend. Incredible flexible coverage with a gorgeous color selection. It is often used for editorial work and the Mehron brand is ALWAYS a staple at New York Fashion Week. The result? Amazing skin on camera and in real life.

As if I wasn’t already obsessed with a polished, fresh complexion I got this incredible ‘My Scultped Face’ Palette from IT Cosmetics which I’ve been using for both face and eyes on pretty much everyone in my chair. It has a fine texture that looks more like skin than obvious shading and illuminating.

&& of course some new tools I cannot live without:

A few of my brushes were stolen last month along with my iPhone 5 but I bought these new ones at IMATS to add to my collection (& upgraded to an iPhone 6). I’m pretty impressed with these brushes from Crown Brush and Morphe – great value for money tools.

This week I was sent this care package from Beautyblender. How cute is the Micro.Mini Beautyblender? I will be testing these out soon. Also find the limited edition Red.Carpet Beautyblender now at Sephora! If your makeup artist does not have the original Beautyblender in their kit, run away! Just kidding but seriously it makes a complete difference in blending the skin will look airbrushed and seamless with these pro makeup staples.

Holiday Glam Makeup

Merry Christmas!

There were so many new clients I’ve met in the last couple weeks with such diverse looks. These are just a few snapshots from my iPhone of new work. More to come.

Young, Effortless Party Makeup:

I hate when makeup artists overwhelm young clients with too much product. This beautiful girl had a gorgeous set of naturally thick brows, lashes and big eyes! I kept the skin clean with just a touch of Cover FX concealer and buffed a small amount of Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Foundation Powder/ Graftobian Pro Loose Powder mainly through the center of the face. There is no product in her brows (I’m so jealous!) Her eyes are a mix of a couple Makeup forever eyeshadows and used  generous coat of L’Oreal Carbon Black Voluminous Mascara. Lips are Becca Cosmetics Beach Tint mixed with Josie Maran Infinity Cream.

Extra Smokey Charcoal eyes

At first glance, this beauty from Qatar had classic features. Creamy skin and soft eyes but we took inspiration from a few Pintrest photos of Arab makeup and came up with this rich smokey eye with a neutral romantic lip. I gave her skin a flawless canvas with Cle De Peau Concealer to highlight, Cover FX Cream Foundation & used Mehron Celebre Pro Foundation to give the face shape. I added Becca Cosmetics Beach tint on her cheeks and added Jane Iredale powder to deepen the contour. On the eyes, Inglot gel liner and Mehron Pressed pigments are all that I used to create a smokey rich look and added a pair of Eyelure lashes. The lips are a combo of Dior and Cinema Secrets lip liners and a polka dot of a Dior Addict lipstick on the center of the lips.

Glam-Mom iconic makeup

These big blue eyes, blonde hair and soft features reminded me of a Disney Princess and her personality was so warm – I had to do an iconic makeup look. Creating a lifted eye look, I used Makeup forever Artist shadows in a few matte shades and highlighted with a sheer wash of Becca Cosmetics Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed to to brighten the inner third of the eyelids and across the top of her cheekbones. I used a precise line of Inglot Gel Eyeliner and lashes to complete the eyes and pressed a small amount of Makeup Forever eyeshadow along the bottom lash line. The skin was prepped with Cover FX Calming Primer then added Bobbi Brown Tinted eye brightener and Cover FX Cream foundation to give an even complexion. On the cheeks is a Matte Bronzer from Cover FX and a blush from Chantecaille.

Modern bronzed bride to be

I’ve obviously been obsessed with Cover FX complexion products and wanted to use the Oil Free Natural Finish Foundation to perfect this bride to be’s skin. This winged look was perfect for her unique eye shape. I used bronzy warm brown eye shadows from Cargo Cosmetics and individual lashes from Kiss Beauty to finish the eyes. This nude lip and peachy blush were the perfect complement to balance this glam face.

Work, Work, Live.

Had the pleasure of doing makeup for some very easy canvases. Lucky me.

Engagement Shoot 3/22/14

Although I can appreciate the skill behind a solid graphic eyeliner and a detailed cut crease, I do still believe in an ethereal more discreet approach to bridal makeup. Wedding makeup – or occasions related to the big day including bridal showers and engagement photos require two main points of difference from a daily makeup look. Number one is longevity (point in case why a major eye statement can sometimes be an unrealistic look) and two is flawless blending in both photos and in real life.

Here are a couple photos of my beautiful bride to be Louraine and her lovely Maid of Honor Sister during a makeup trial this past weekend:

My bridal client Louraine seemed anxious about our makeup consultation since she has cystic acne and acne scarring which can be difficult to camouflage. My pro kit has a variety of different complexion perfecters which offer high coverage without the heavy feeling of some not so skin friendly foundations. She right away noticed that I was not using MAC which she loved since MAC typically triggers breakouts for her skin and that a lot of the products I use contain organic or natural ingredients.

Here’s a breakdown of what I used to create a flawless canvas that translated in person and on camera.

BECCA Cosmetics Ever Matte Poreless Priming Perfector : This is my favorite primer to use if I know my client has oily skin or if the event they are attending is in a hot/humid environment. This is a silicone, fragrance, oil and alcohol free primer making it idea for a lot of different skin types. I used this on both Louraine and her sister mainly in the center of the face (cheeks, forehead, nose and chin) using light patting motions. This product prolongs makeup wear, controls shine and minimizes any uneven textures on the complexion.

Chantecaille Future Skin : This foundation is so innovative as it is an oil-free formula but holds a lot of hydration from the rose water base and soothes any type of irritation with the green tea, arnica and chamomile. It has a weightless feel making it idea for long events and the HD finish makes it beautiful in every type of lighting. On Louraine I used shades Wheat all over and Cammomile to highlight. For her sister, I used shade Cream all over and Alabaster to highlight.

OCC Skin Conceal: I have two darker shades of this concealer in my kit that I use for contouring the skin. It is a vegan formula, ridiculously pigmented and has a long lasting wear. I used a small stipple brush to contour the face and a small eyeshadow blending brush to slim the nose. A tiny bit of this product goes a long way and does not look shiny, ashy or obvious on the skin.

Bobbi Brown Corrector: I love love love to use this product especially for photoshoots as it hides dark circles if used in small amours buffed onto the eye contour. Too much of this product will crease under eyes and can really migrate if its not set with a fine loose or pressed powder. Less is definitely more!

Makeup Forever HD Pressed Powder: Sheer, colorless and in compact form this is my kit favorite for setting the skin. I applied this all over Louraine’s skin as she has oily skin but with a fluffy face brush so skin still looks fresh and non-cakey.

I was so happy to meet these two ladies and boost Louraine’s confidence for her engagement shoot! Here are a couple shots from the photoshoot:
