The highly requested ‘No Makeup Makeup Look’

I’ve added a few excellent pro makeup items to my kit thanks to some awesome PR contacts as well as my own investment in new high-def complexion tools/ products. The number one request on clients especially for bridal events is flawless skin and a polished, no makeup-makeup complexion which is hard to achieve but so timeless.

Aside from proper skin prep, the ‘no makeup-makeup’ look revolves around skin that looks like skin and camouflaging imperfections without pounds of makeup. Ahem ‘cake face.’ So I typically choose multiple complexion mediums from color corrector, foundations, concealers and loose powders but I use minimal product and close attention to detail when it comes to blending. Blending is Key!

As if I wasn’t already obsessed with a polished, fresh complexion I got this incredible ‘My Scultped Face’ Palette from IT Cosmetics which I’ve been using for both face and eyes on pretty much everyone in my chair. It has a fine texture that looks more like skin than obvious shading and illuminating.

&& of course some new tools I cannot live without:

A few of my brushes were stolen last month along with my iPhone 5 but I bought these new ones at IMATS to add to my collection (& upgraded to an iPhone 6). I’m pretty impressed with these brushes from Crown Brush and Morphe – great value for money tools.

This week I was sent this care package from Beautyblender. How cute is the Micro.Mini Beautyblender? I will be testing these out soon. Also find the limited edition Red.Carpet Beautyblender now at Sephora! If your makeup artist does not have the original Beautyblender in their kit, run away! Just kidding but seriously it makes a complete difference in blending the skin will look airbrushed and seamless with these pro makeup staples.

Makeup Essential Tools for Looking Flawless

Over the weekend, during a bridal makeup trial appointment I was reminded that I’ve really incorporated a lot of new favorite beauty tools into my pro kit. Since I finally have a quick minute to devote to writing, here is a post about new essentials that make painting a flawless face an easy task.

Le Metier De Beaute Blush Brush I Typically am not a fan of short stem brushes but this one is so luxe with a matte black finish and ultra-soft bristles that it is hard not to be obsessed with this tool. Though I mainly use this soft tapered tool for applying bronzer and blush it is also a beautiful brush when used with loose finishing powder. Find this beauty at Neiman Marcus and beauty bar.com.

Japonesque Heated Mini Lash Curler As a self proclaimed eyelash curler hoarder I must say I was surprised to see how often the Japonesque Heated Mini Lash Curler has replaced my favorites from Tweezerman, Sephora Brand, Shu Uemura and Chanel for the last three months. Get a fully fanned out curl without a deep crimp competitors may lead from a traditional metal eyelash tool. Find this beauty at Ulta and ulta.com.

Tweezerman Pink Perfection Slant Tweezer Aside from being hot pink, this precision tool keeps my brow game on point plus is so perfect for placing individual false lashes – enough said. I got this beauty from Sephora last year and its still available in store and online.

Beauty Blender What I love about this tool is that it is non-latex for my sensitive clients and it blends foundation, contour and highlighting creams with such a quick application. My favorite way to use a beautyblender is to first dampen the sponge with rose water and use a stipple/rolling motion to blend the complexion. Beautyblender is available all over shop some of my favorite retailers: Sephora, Frends Beauty or Camera Ready Cosmetics.

Sephora Pro Brow Comb #21 Eyebrows and lashes are so important to the total makeup look – or even a bare face- because they frame the eyes. A perfectly groomed brow is easy to maintain with the stiff bristle end which pushes brows into the right shape. Use the opposite end to de-clump mascara for elongated lashes.

Morphe C139 Stiff Tap Brush Whether you are just getting into makeup or are a makeup pro, Morphe Brushes are affordable, functional and great for building an essential beauty wardrobe. Currently I have three C139 Stiff Tap brushes and I use them frequently to define the crease and apply loose and pressed pigments over the lid.

Rouge Bunny Rouge Crease Brush 011 Made from super soft natural goat hair, this is the perfect brush for blending any eye look from subtle to full on dramatic. The dome shaped bristles make it incredibly easy to create a perfect smokey eye. Find this beauty at rougebunnyrouge.com.

Sephora & Frends Beauty Haul

As a true beauty junkie, my two favorite places to stock my personal and professional makeup kit are Sephora and Frends Beauty Supply.

From Sephora, I purchased 3 items with a 10% off code I had been saving after renewing my VIB status and got a couple freebies including a YSL Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stain sample trio, Anastasia Beverly Hills brow powder and Phyto Express Conditioner for fine hair.

I decided to finally get a full sized version of the Nars Pro Prime Eyeshadow primer; it is the best eye primer that makes any eye shadow completely smudge resistant. I also picked up my favorite Josie Maran Bear Naked Nail Wipes. These have a pleasant grapefruit scent and remove polish while infusing the nail bed with natural hydrators. Lastly, the Sephora Collection Pro Brow Comb #21 is an essential brush for separating eyelashes and keeping brows perfectly groomed into place.

During a drive down the 101 Freeway yesterday, I decided to drop into the Frends Beauty Supply Showroom in North Hollywood. After about a year of shopping the Frends Beauty website, it was an exciting moment to actually walk around in the actual store getting to see some of the niche pro makeup artist products available. Since it was a quick visit, I picked up eyelashes for some upcoming bridal work, Duo dark tone glue, one of my favorite brushes – Morphe C139 Stiff Tap Eye Brush and a fresh bottle of Beauty So Clean Cosmetic Sanitizer Mist.

All of these items will be put to good work and once again, my beauty cravings have been fulfilled!

3 Cheap-Chic makeup storage ideas

Researching some favorite beauty experts on social media, my inspiration to get into organization overhaul has brought me think creatively to maximize space, make my beauty collection more accessible and keep a visually appealing retro-fancy-quirky feel that I favor.

Working in the beauty industry for many years, I’ve been fortunate to have the great perk of trying multiple brands. Recently, I cannot say how grateful I am for the amount of products coming my way which prompted my inclination to create some stylish solutions.

Although there is still a to be continued for my product storage, there are a couple small budget ideas that I’ve put into play that I would love to share:

1. Recently, I picked up 2 Apothecary jars from a closing sale at a nearby beauty shop for only $5 each and decided to stack them since the clear glass and wide bottom offered a great spot to display my beloved lipsticks. For extra stability, I put a small mirrored plate that I bought at the Dollar Store between the two jars and oddly enough, I found a similar stacked apothecary jar at West Elm but for $34 a few days later!

2. Upcycled glass jars make excellent makeup brush holders for their functional sizes, unique shapes and are easily revamped with old pieces of fashion jewelry. Currently on my vanity there are six jars that house all of my brushes and hard to store makeup items like mascaras and eyeliners. Pictured is a revamped coconut oil, Ranch dip and candle jar adorned with a retired bracelet and headband.  Just add Gorilla Glue!

3. I’ve also been loving this photo frame holder I found at Homegoods for only $4.99. It was missing a little piece at the front but I used an old crystal Hello Kitty inspired bow from a phone case to add an interesting detail. At the moment it holding a few of my Zpalletes. Photo frame holders like this come in a huge variety and are perfect for adding life to a small counter top.
