Must Have Makeup: Laura Geller 25 Shades of Baked

When this luxuriously presented makeup portfolio arrived, I literally gasped at how beautiful the colors were at first glance. As an obvious color fan I was delighted to receive the gorgeous 25 Shades of Baked Eye Palette from Laura Geller Beauty. This QVC exclusive is an impressive array of wearable, bold, dramatic and vibrant shades to fulfill any makeup look for fall/winter seasons and beyond. Since the colors are conveniently packaged in a chic matte black packaging and generous mirror it makes getting ready quite enjoyable! The shimmering jewel tones and rich pigments make this a must have for any makeup collector.

Cobalt Blue Graphic Eyeliner

Friday’s makeup look revolved around two things: strategic highlighting and a graphic eyeliner. One of my favorite trends that has made a comeback in the last year is a graphic eyeliner but many visuals reveal a severe black gel eyeliner so I decided to wear the trend in a more colorful option. I paired Lush Emotional Brilliance Eye Liner in In Charge and Cargo Cosmetics Babylon Eye Shadow to create this play on a fall beauty trend. Since the eyes were more intense, my complexion was soft with just a bit of concealer highlighting with my current favorite, Illamasqua Skin Base Lift concealer in shade Medium 1.

Lemonade, Lush & Little Treats

If there is one thing I love about meeting with old friends is the nostalgia and reminiscing that comes along with it. It feels like lifetimes ago but in my Junior year of high school I was sitting in the back of Geology class with a compact open lining my eyes with MAC’s Black Tied eye shadow and an angle brush and noticed a girl across the way who had a little shimmering makeup assortment in front of her also. Lauren and I could go on playing and talking about products literally forever! Fast forward to our adult lives we remained connected and to no surprise we are both beauty bloggers, makeup artists, skin care obsessed and beauty addicts. We were long overdue for a meetup so we stopped by the new Lemonade in Fashion Island n Newport Beach for a food coma of delicious treats. It’s always refreshing to have someone who is in the same industry striving for similar goals. We share stories of the politics of cosmetics, networking adventures and share our latest beauty finds; it’s a good time!

I had the ‘small portions’ of Lemon Mushroom Couscous, Meatballs and Truffle Mac and Cheese with a Peach Ginger Lemonade. $16 of deliciousness!

After lunch, we parted ways and I decided to stop by two of my favorite places: Inglot and Lush. I love both of these beauty spots because the atmosphere is creative and the people are friendly. From Inglot, I picked up a matte navy eye shadow and a rusty orange shimmering shade. My eye was drawn to a deep emerald green and vibrant matte orange but unfortunately they were out of stock. Lush has some of the most unique products for bath, skin and body care not to mention a killer makeup line. I walked in just to check out what’s new and found some lovely new items including adorable penguins, metallic treats and a mini Santa!

For some reason I didn’t take any pics at Inglot but I snapped a stream of pics at Lush!

On the Go Glamming

Whenever the image of someone applying makeup in the car comes to mind I cringe at the thought of uneven face symmetry and horrible blending but this morning I was guilty of having a 405 Freeway traffic glamming session.

I have mastered makeup application on myself knowing exactly where to apply products without looking with the exception of my eyebrows which I refuse to do without proper mirror time. Often even at home, I can literally do my entire face pretty spot on minus brows with no mirror. This morning I applied my eye shadow primer, eye shadows, eyeliner, foundation, concealer, bronzer, blush and loose powder all on the way to work (which is usually a thirty minute to an hour drive).

Of course for more intricate makeup days when a precise liner or extravagant eye makeup plays a part in my overall look of the day than an on the go glamming session is not the best idea but this morning was an early one and I had no choice but to glam it on the freeway. I applied my eyes and cheek products with a brush and blended all of my face makeup with just my fingertips. The lashes were a last minute addition I threw on right after I parked.

Here’s what I used: Cover FX Total Cover Cream Foundation G40, Illamasqua Skin Base Lift Concealer Medium 1, Koh Gen Do UV Translucent powder, Chantecaille Matte Eye Shadow in Celestine and the Wild Horses Palette, Chantecaille Blush in Ecstacy, Cover FX Matte Bronzer, Kardashian Beauty Navy Eyeliner, Cle De Pea Lip Luminizer in #203 & Katy Perry for Eyelure Eyelashes.

Makeup Medicine

This morning I woke up feeling very nasal and sick but that’s nothing a Soy Caramel Machiatto, a lot of water and makeup can’t fix.

It sounds ridiculous but makeup transforms my mood all the time. Whatever emotion I’m feeling there is always a calm that hits my body when I pick up a makeup brush and start creating the perfect blend. Since my throat and nose was causing me to feel low energy, I picked up my colorful Crown Brush palette that I purchased during a Hautelook Beauty Sale last month and started pairing random colors together.

Brush love for 3 kit favorites

Having the right brushes is a major part of a working makeup artist’s kit. The right taper, firmness, and bristles all play a part in what executes the outcome of a perfect blend. Although my kit is filled with many options, of all of my brush arsenal, there are three particular tools that I must reach for each time.

  1. Makeup Up Forever Professional Angled Eyebrow Brush #270: This angled brush is the best for achieving the perfect brows. Even for models with barely there eyebrow hairs, this precise tool creates both sharp and soft stokes that is essential for getting brows on point. Though I primarily use this brush for brows the tightly packed firm bristles are also useful for creating winged eyeliner and for smudging cream eye shadow at the base of the lashes. The small brush head is idea for applying just the right amount of powder, gel or cream.
  2. Dior Beaute Cheek Brush: What can I say about this tool; it’s been in my kit for over six years and it literally does not shed and still feels baby soft no matter how many shampoos it goes through. Recently in the past two years, Dior has changed to a new cheek brush which is beautiful with a matte black stem and fuller bristles but I prefer the feel and application of this one. I use this brush mainly for sculpting the face with bronzer or blush but it can also give an airy finish when used to apply loose or pressed powders.
  3. Japonesque Pro Blush Brush #324: I was so excited when I was sent this brush for review as I’ve always been a Japonesque fan. When using this brush over the last weekend, the common response was that it was incredibly soft. I love to use this for applying loose powder on curved areas including under the eyes, over the nose and on the chin. It distributes powders without looking cakey or heavy and the long stem gives it a luxurious appearance. Since the brush head is tapered and smaller than the Dior brush mentioned above it makes is a gorgeous choice for detailing small areas without applying too much product.

Falling for red lips all over again

One of my all time favorite things about fall is seeing red lip colors emerge out of every makeup brand. The iconic lip color is synonymous with not only old Hollywood vintage glamour but with autumn fashion trend each year because the rich shade of red is always complementary to the breezy weather. It’s like the ultimate declaration that summer is over when I hide my bright pinks and turn my attention to my red lip collection. Making a major comeback this year is orange-red lip shades; a warm twist on the dark reds seen in the past few fall seasons. See a full list of my orange red lips faves, by clicking here.

Also, here are some swatches and info on a couple standouts in my personal collection: Top Avon Ultra Color Lipstick in Tangerine Tango, Middle Chantecaille Persimmon, Bottom Marc Jacobs Beauty Lovemarc Lip Gel in All the Way.

For timid beauty fans, try a sheer lip gloss instead of a full on, opaque lipstick. Try the amazing Kelly Tee Garden Organics lip gloss in shade ‘red’ it has a seriously useful light up wand and side mirror for touch ups in any setting.

& if you’re like me with big lips, a long wearing lipstick is a total necessity. I recently saw the new formulation of the Dior Rouge Dior Lipsticks and love the classic #999 shade that made Dior so famous for killer lipstick with its luxe feel and full coverage finish. I don’t have the new packaging, I’m debating if I should purchase it  (more on that later) but if you scroll down to my post ‘Dior In My Heart’ there is a photo of my hand with swatches that shows the red #999 color in the center of my hand. There are three majorly addictive orange-red lipsticks that have made it to my collection from Avon, Chantecaille and Marc Jacobs which are so beautiful and carry an impressive wear and pigment. (Thank you Avon and Chantecaille for sending over these beauties my way). All have a moisturizing feel but don’t slip of the lips easily. Love that!

What’s your fall season beauty favorite?

Gold Eyes + Pink Lips

As far back as I can remember in my makeup memories, gold and pink has always been a go to color combination when I can’t decide what to wear. Fast, multi-dimensional and just neutral enough to pair with any fashion picks this wearable duo is a modern revamp of the classic creamy eye shadow and flushed lips. In the past ten days, this has been my default makeup look for pretty much every occasion: work, date night w my hubby & everywhere in between.

Here I am wearing my signature color pairing:

pgold1

      pgold    pgold2

& these are a few of my current favorites….

gpink   gpink1

Gold Eyes:  I’ve been using the pale gold from the Kardashian Beauty Double Up eye stick (the other end has a black shimmering cream eye shadow and also this is the old packing it’s not called Kardashian Beauty not Khroma Beauty) as a primer underneath my shadows to make the gold more vibrant, Maybelline Color Tattoo pigment in Breaking Bronze, Le Metier De Beaute True Color Eyeshadow in JOJO, Cargo Cosmetics Vintage Escapes Eye shadow palette in shades Cinnamon & Rustic.

Pink Lips: Cle De Peau Extra Rich Lipstick, YSL Rouge Volupte in #2 Sensuous Silk, Chantecaille Luminous Lipgloss in Frambroise, vbeaute Lip Spread in Truth.

Have you tried this classic color combo?

La Femme: Holy Grail Blush

Rebellious would not be the first word I would use to describe myself but the occasional against the grain makeup choice counts right?

I recently purchased a few La Femme Blushes from the Camera Ready Cosmetics website and have been completely impressed with the high color payoff. At $2.79 each they are a total value especially for makeup artists who want versatile shades that actually show up on deep skin tones to include in a professional kit. The blushes were purchased depotted (just the pans) which is perfect since I love to condense my kit with Z Palettes; the best space savers!

A few days ago, I was experimenting and decided to wear the La Femme blushes in shades Sienna and Bordeaux as my eyeshadow. To my delight, the colors looked just as warm and autumn like on my eyes as it did when I imagined the shades in my head. Since it is still quite hot in SoCal, the eye look helped me crave the breezy fall pumpkin spice latte worthy weather that has yet to occur.

Here’s what I used:

Cle De Peau Extra Rich Lipstick, La Femme blush in shade Indian Rose on my cheeks, Chantecaille Just Skin Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15, VMV Hypoallergenics Ooh La Lash Mascara, Eyeshadows from Cargo Cosmetics Vintage Escapes Palette in Black Crow and Chestnut for my eyebrows, Sienna and Bordeaux La Femme blushes on my eyelids, Duo darktone eyelash adhesive & Ardell Demi Wispies false lashes.

If you are thinking of updating either your personal or professional makeup kit, La Femme blush refills are available in almost 50 shades from the Camera Ready Cosmetics website. I’ve got my eyes on shades Frambossia, Mulberry and Cinnabar for next time! They have quick delivery, ship internationally and a really large selection of affordable makeup artist essentials.

I love a good blush, don’t you?
