After not wearing lashes for a few weeks, I decided to get creative w my makeup & add top and bottom lashes today. Though it sounds like a lot of lash- a couple colleagues and a personal client all commented that they looked quite natural even up close. The secret? Choose lashes with a very thin ‘invisible’ stip and apply them as close to the natural lash line as possible.
This image was taken on reverse camera with my iPhone 5 (no filter so excuse the shine on my nose), and no flash after wearing my makeup for a good 6 hours.
I used Kiss trio individual lashes ‘x-short’ on the bottom and Eyelure Naturalites ‘lengthening’ strip lashes on top secured with Lashgrip ‘dark’ lash glue.
&&& for the less daring, here are a few tips to remember when applying false lashes.
1. First tight line the top lash line w a black waterproof pencil and soften the eyeliner with a flat eye brush. This will help to camouflage the false lashes whether you choose individuals or strip eyelashes.
2. Curl lashes (if you have Asian lashes like mine this is essential!). Plump lashes with a primer – my favorite is Lash Maximizer by Dior, scroll down a few posts to read my review. Top eyelashes off with a couple coats of mascara before placing false eyelashes to prevent spider eyes.
3. Typically, a minimal amount of lash glue will do the trick. Apply a thin layer of glue onto the strip then wait 20 seconds for the glue to get tacky. Applying lashes when glue is too wet will make a big sticky mess!
4. I only use tweezers when applying individual lashes because I find it easier to use my own fingers. Do what feels more comfortable as long as the lash strip is directly on the lash line with no space between natural and faux lash lines.
5. Finish by pinching natural and false lashes together and curl once more if necessary.
*** always keep lash glue handy when wearing falsies – just in case!
One of the highlights of June was attending a beauty editor and beauty blogger press event featuring a few of my favorite things: eyelashes, great sunglasses and a lighthearted chat with two incredible beauty industry leaders.
Allergan and LATISSE® hosted an event at Warby Parker at The Standard Hotel in Hollywood where I had the pleasure of meeting Celebrity Makeup Artist Brigitte Reiss-Andersen and top dermatologist Dr Jessica Wu. It was a joy to meet these two powerful ladies who of course were gorgeous, eloquent speakers and so sweet. Listening to Brigitte talk about her legendary career painting faces for iconic Vogue magazine covers, high fashion editorials and working side by side with the most respected designers was an unreal experience. Her persona is genuine and her energy is inspiring! Dr. Jessica Wu was a sweet surprise as she speaks with such passion about her journey building her education and high profile following at her Brentwood office.
Latisse is the premium solution to obtaining full, healthy lashes without the damaging aftermath that lash extensions and false eyelash strips cause. Boosting a youthful appearance with the benefits of increased lash density, volume and length can be achieved through Latisse and I cannot wait to give it a try! More to come on my Latisse journey coming soon.
Here is a quick photo diary from the event.
Legendary Makeup Artist Brigitte Reiss-Andersen and I after we chatted about the controversy behind ‘Instagram Eyebrows’ and her favorite memories working behind the scenes with Mr Yves Saint Laurent.
Dr. Jessica Wu speaking to her personal experience of working on the 1st clinical trials of Latisse and her tips on navigating modern anti-aging.
Visit the Latisse Website for further info on how to get beautiful lashes in just a few weeks! Also, a quick thank you to Jamie from Lippe Taylor PR for the gracious invitation.
As a true beauty junkie, my two favorite places to stock my personal and professional makeup kit are Sephora and Frends Beauty Supply.
From Sephora, I purchased 3 items with a 10% off code I had been saving after renewing my VIB status and got a couple freebies including a YSL Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stain sample trio, Anastasia Beverly Hills brow powder and Phyto Express Conditioner for fine hair.
I decided to finally get a full sized version of the Nars Pro Prime Eyeshadow primer; it is the best eye primer that makes any eye shadow completely smudge resistant. I also picked up my favorite Josie Maran Bear Naked Nail Wipes. These have a pleasant grapefruit scent and remove polish while infusing the nail bed with natural hydrators. Lastly, the Sephora Collection Pro Brow Comb #21 is an essential brush for separating eyelashes and keeping brows perfectly groomed into place.
During a drive down the 101 Freeway yesterday, I decided to drop into the Frends Beauty Supply Showroom in North Hollywood. After about a year of shopping the Frends Beauty website, it was an exciting moment to actually walk around in the actual store getting to see some of the niche pro makeup artist products available. Since it was a quick visit, I picked up eyelashes for some upcoming bridal work, Duo dark tone glue, one of my favorite brushes – Morphe C139 Stiff Tap Eye Brush and a fresh bottle of Beauty So Clean Cosmetic Sanitizer Mist.
All of these items will be put to good work and once again, my beauty cravings have been fulfilled!
As I drank my morning coffee fix from Starbucks earlier today, it reminded me of a memory as a young girl in elementary school hoping desperately to wear lipstick and leave my imprint on a coffee mug just like my mom. She would wear a dusty rose creamy lipstick and that faint pout stamped across the top of her pale ivory mug was like a true statement of glamour I thought as I nibbled at my buttery grilled cheese sitting next to her. My earliest memories of makeup fixation happened so young and now my little princess looks at me the same way I looked at my mom as she swiped across a generous swatch of lipstick across her mouth.
Today, my mom still favors a pinky rose lip; the classic hue brings me back to childhood every time! Here is today’s lip combo with my Grande White Mocha: Marc Jacobs Beauty Lovemarc Lip Gel in All the Way & Le Metier De Beaute Lip Crème Lip Gloss in Papaya Crème. I went with the dewy theme and paired the vibrant orange glossy lip with glowing skin and iridescent green eye shadows.
What I’m wearing: Urban Decay Primer Potion in Eden, Crown Brush Limited Edition Hautelook eye shadow palette, Bobbi Brown Corrector in Peach, Illamasqua Skin Base lift concealer in Medium, Chanel Kohl Noir eyeliner pencil, Cargo Cosmetics eye shadow from Vintage Escapes Palette in Chestnut for my eyebrows, Dior Lash Maximizer, Eyeko Black Magic Mascara, Dior Forever Foundation in 030 Medium Beige, Sleek Makeup Cream to Powder foundation as my contour, Vapour Organic Beauty Multi-Use Blush Stain in Crave, Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal.
False lashes and I have been in a love/hate relationship for the past eight years.
From age 18-22 I had a major romance with false eye lases as I’ve always been a fan of over the top glamorous makeup; most likely from my pageant days and adoration for luxury beauty ads. On minimal makeup days, I loved to pair my huge false lashes with no foundation and a bold colorful lip. Even during my pregnancy, false eyelashes made me feel just a little bit more fabulous than I felt on exhausting days juggling school and work.
Experimenting with different lengths was especially fun when working behind the makeup counter but I gradually grew bored with the chore of applying them every morning.
Since then, I occasionally rocked a pair of lashes but luckily my natural lashes were easily boosted with my what seems like a lifelong supply of Dior Lash Maximizer and Mascaras from working with the legendary mascara brand for so many years.
Lately I’ve succumb to some frequent lash cravings. Yes, lash cravings! Going a little bit crazy on rebuilding my false lash stash with some amazing brands: Ardell, Japonesque, Eyelure and a new discovery True or False Lashes.
Today I’m feeling the false lash love, let’s see about tomorrow.
My current stash excluding a few pairs on top of my vanity:
