Lash tips for a ‘natural’ faux lash look

After not wearing lashes for a few weeks, I decided to get creative w my makeup & add top and bottom lashes today. Though it sounds like a lot of lash- a couple colleagues and a personal client all commented that they looked quite natural even up close. The secret? Choose lashes with a very thin ‘invisible’ stip and apply them as close to the natural lash line as possible.

This image was taken on reverse camera with my iPhone 5 (no filter so excuse the shine on my nose), and no flash after wearing my makeup for a good 6 hours.

I used Kiss trio individual lashes ‘x-short’ on the bottom and Eyelure Naturalites ‘lengthening’ strip lashes on top secured with Lashgrip ‘dark’ lash glue.

&&& for the less daring, here are a few tips to remember when applying false lashes.

1. First tight line the top lash line w a black waterproof pencil and soften the eyeliner with a flat eye brush. This will help to camouflage the false lashes whether you choose individuals or strip eyelashes.

2. Curl lashes (if you have Asian lashes like mine this is essential!). Plump lashes with a primer – my favorite is Lash Maximizer by Dior, scroll down a few posts to read my review. Top eyelashes off with a couple coats of mascara before placing false eyelashes to prevent spider eyes.

3. Typically, a minimal amount of lash glue will do the trick. Apply a thin layer of glue onto the strip then wait 20 seconds for the glue to get tacky. Applying lashes when glue is too wet will make a big sticky mess!

4. I only use tweezers when applying individual lashes because I find it easier to use my own fingers. Do what feels more comfortable as long as the lash strip is directly on the lash line with no space between natural and faux lash lines.

5. Finish by pinching natural and false lashes together and curl once more if necessary.

*** always keep lash glue handy when wearing falsies – just in case!

Eyelashes, Sunnies and Icons

One of the highlights of June was attending a beauty editor and beauty blogger press event featuring a few of my favorite things: eyelashes, great sunglasses and a lighthearted chat with two incredible beauty industry leaders.

Allergan and LATISSE® hosted an event at Warby Parker at The Standard Hotel in Hollywood where I had the pleasure of meeting Celebrity Makeup Artist Brigitte Reiss-Andersen and top dermatologist Dr Jessica Wu. It was a joy to meet these two powerful ladies who of course were gorgeous, eloquent speakers and so sweet. Listening to Brigitte talk about her legendary career painting faces for iconic Vogue magazine covers, high fashion editorials and working side by side with the most respected designers was an unreal experience. Her persona is genuine and her energy is inspiring! Dr. Jessica Wu was a sweet surprise as she speaks with such passion about her journey building her education and high profile following at her Brentwood office.

Latisse is the premium solution to obtaining full, healthy lashes without the damaging aftermath that lash extensions and false eyelash strips cause. Boosting a youthful appearance with the benefits of increased lash density, volume and length can be achieved through Latisse and I cannot wait to give it a try! More to come on my Latisse journey coming soon.

Here is a quick photo diary from the event.

Get Stronger Lashes in just 3 weeks

I’m quite skeptical when it comes to eyelash products that claim to grow natural length because number one, I have asian eyelashes and number two my lashes fall out a lot since I curl them daily – again the curse of straight and extra short asian eyelashes. Although I frequently love to wear a pair of false lashes my eyes have been easily irritated from spring allergies and I have been leaning toward taking my time with applying mascara in the morning over a strip of falsies. To be fair, I have never tried Latisse or any growth treatment besides the one I am about to mention but I do know there is a laundry list of hazards attached to those type of prescription grade treatments such as discoloration and redness.

A few years ago, while I was working for Dior I helped launch the Dior Lash Maximizer which claimed to grow lashes in length, gradually increase curl and give the lashes an overall plush appearance. It’s made with soy protein which conditions and is the main ingredient that makes the lashes noticeably longer in length. A major plus to the product is it is convenient to apply as it is a mascara wand that deposits white product that turns clear in seconds – simply brush on the lashes first and follow up with your favorite mascara.

Personally, I’ve tried it under Dior mascaras (Diorshow New Look is my favorite of the Dior family), other luxe brands and even under drugstore mascaras and it still works beautifully to give the lashes an immediate difference in thickness, length and separation.

Top photo was taken 3 weeks ago prior to using the Diorshow Lash Maximizer & the bottom is from today after using it daily for 3 weeks!

I highly recommend the Diorshow Lash Maximizer to anyone who has problems with lash fallout, short lashes or is just looking to amplify the look of their natural lashes. I cannot say that I notice a big difference in natural curl after using it over the years but I do notice a change in the length and thickness when I have gone without this product. For $28.50 it is worth a try!

Sephora & Frends Beauty Haul

As a true beauty junkie, my two favorite places to stock my personal and professional makeup kit are Sephora and Frends Beauty Supply.

From Sephora, I purchased 3 items with a 10% off code I had been saving after renewing my VIB status and got a couple freebies including a YSL Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stain sample trio, Anastasia Beverly Hills brow powder and Phyto Express Conditioner for fine hair.

I decided to finally get a full sized version of the Nars Pro Prime Eyeshadow primer; it is the best eye primer that makes any eye shadow completely smudge resistant. I also picked up my favorite Josie Maran Bear Naked Nail Wipes. These have a pleasant grapefruit scent and remove polish while infusing the nail bed with natural hydrators. Lastly, the Sephora Collection Pro Brow Comb #21 is an essential brush for separating eyelashes and keeping brows perfectly groomed into place.

During a drive down the 101 Freeway yesterday, I decided to drop into the Frends Beauty Supply Showroom in North Hollywood. After about a year of shopping the Frends Beauty website, it was an exciting moment to actually walk around in the actual store getting to see some of the niche pro makeup artist products available. Since it was a quick visit, I picked up eyelashes for some upcoming bridal work, Duo dark tone glue, one of my favorite brushes – Morphe C139 Stiff Tap Eye Brush and a fresh bottle of Beauty So Clean Cosmetic Sanitizer Mist.

All of these items will be put to good work and once again, my beauty cravings have been fulfilled!
