Any Makeup artist knows that the original Bobbi Brown Color Correctors are one of the most sought after product selections for camouflaging dark circles. While the Color Correctors come in a huge spectrum of pink and peach based shades for all skin tones, the cream texture packaged in either a mini compact or for makeup pros in the BBU palette, is a heavier more opaque formula that naturally has a dry texture.
Though I love the original Bobbi Brown Color Corrector, during this season, I find it looks to over done for the fresh day look I prefer. When I saw that the Tinted Eye Brightener was a liquid version of the creamy Color Correctors, I knew I had to try it out. The range of colors is much smaller in the Tinted Eye Brightener family but the shades are flexible and the fluid texture makes it so appropriate for a more invisible, second skin, easy makeup look. The doe foot applicator also makes it idea for on the go makeup application especially for spring/summer vacation makeup bags.
After using the product for almost two weeks, I would absolutely recommend this as an alternative to full coverage concealers more suited for the fall/winter matte skin look. Bobbi Brown is a master at complexion perfecting products and I’m so happy she released this product!
The Bobbi Brown Tinted Eye Brightener retails for $30 and is available in 7 shades from Porcelain Peach to Dark Bisque, my shade is ‘Peach.’
As I opened one eye to my smiling 4 year old two inches from my face playing with my hair at 6:30 am, there was a part of me that wanted to send her back to her bed to play while I continued holding on to the four hours of sleep I got last night but then I just couldn’t do it. Who could resist that innocent laugh she makes, right? So I mustered up some energy while I let her choose her preschool attire for the day; the little diva went with a red floral print dress, purple sweater and Tinkerbell socks in case you were wondering.
She climbed up my leg, sat on my lap and watched me start my morning ritual of skincare essentials and makeup routine per the norm. “Is that a thick eye cream?” “How come you put a serum on like that?” “You should wear the matte eyeshadow primer instead of the gold one mommy.” “Are you blending the creamy concealer with a flat brush?” and of course at this age “Why… Why… Why…” never ends. Yes, totally my daughter with this eloquent beauty verbage!
Between the Why’s How’s and What’s this is the finished beauty look I came up with through the morning interrogation.
For tired mornings a two must haves are BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector and Illamasqua Skin Base Lift Concealer. BECCA’s brilliant liquid highlighter can be used over or under makeup and even on no makeup days to bring life back to fatigued morning skin. Today I applied an ultra-thin layer of Illamasqua concealer under my eyes to camoflauge dark circles and divided one pump of BECCA’s Shimmering Skin Perfector in shade Opal along the tops of my cheeks, down the center of my nose and on my chin to illuminate any dark shadows.
What I used: Caudalie Cleansing Water, vbeaute Eye Never Eye Cream, Dior One Essential Serum, Caudalie Vino Fluid SPF 15 on my skin, Cover FX Total Cream Foundation in N40 and G40 (used with a light hand blended with just fingertips), Illamasqua Skin Base Lift Concealer in Medium 1, Laura Geller Beauty 25 Shades of Baked Palette in Khaki and Emerald on top of Urban Decay Primer Potion in Eden, Eyelure Katy Perry Color Pop false eyelashes, Cargo Cosmetics Vintage Escapes Eye Shadow Palette in Chestnut and Black Crow in my brows, Sleek Makeup Cream to Powder (Also used with a light hand blended with just fingertips), Dior Addict Extreme Lipstick in Incognito, Per-fekt Beauty Lip Perfection Gel in Sunset, BECCA Cosmetics Shimmering SKin Perfector in Opal.
Give me glowing and fresh over shadows and matte skin any day!
Being guilty of living off caffeine, it is always exciting to discover new methods of hiding sleepy eyes and dull skin. Luckily, I have mastered makeup techniques over the years and would like to share my favorite beauty secrets with my Saturday morning makeup transformation that happened just yesterday.
I woke up with major puffy eyes, dry skin and overall not a good look; possibly a result of my lack of sleep and slight emotional breakdown from a stressful week of motherhood and life. If you follow me on instagram there are multiple snapshots of my extensive 7-10 product nightly skincare ritual but this unfortunately did not happen the night prior. So I sat down in my bathroom and began a bit of artist magic to get my face into presentable shape before work.
First, begin with products that will suit your biggest concerns. Using the right texture is everything when it comes to looking pulled together after a poor night’s sleep. Strategic highlight and shadow contouring is your ultimate best friend in the morning for recovering a tired face. For the most part, stick with matte textures all over except on a few distinct areas to conceal any morning after distressed skin.
De-puff by pressing an eye cream along the curved bone under the eyes. Don’t apply any cream close to the lash line as the product will move on its own with your natural facial muscles. Across the lid prime with a lasting eye shadow base and use a matte dark eye shadow across the entire lower lid to recede the puffiness. Blend the top of the dark shadow with a medium matte shade to create an easy eye look. Use shimmering shades only in the inner corner of the eyes unless you want to emphasize sleepy, puffy lids.
Fill in your brows! Those blessed with full eyebrows should still give the hairs a good brush and set with a brow gel. As the brows create structure to the face it can absolutely provide an instant lifting effect when shaping into the right arch. Sparse brows can easily be fixed with a little bit of matte eye shadow, an angle brush or a fine brow pencil.
Prepare skin with a good moisturizer and apply a long wearing foundation to even the complexion. Layer a color corrector and concealer under the eyes and set with a fine loose powder to keep the product from moving around and if you love a good contour like I do, shade the face with either a darker foundation shade or matte bronzer in the hollows of cheeks, on the temples and under the jaw line. Highlight the skin with an iridescent product at the high point of the cheeks to add a faux glow. This illusion is a simple step but makes a huge impact on the overall makeup look.
(totally optional) Apply false lashes. Enhancing the length and thickness of lashes can be a great choice for making eyes look bigger and more awake. Choose lashes that aren’t too overwhelming for your eye shape. Since my work environment is creative, a pair of wispy strip lashes are appropriate but if you work in a more constrained atmosphere, than half lashes or a few individual lashes may be a better fit.
