Peaceful mornings last week to calm my sick throat and headaches consisted of Lipton noodle soup, a soy latte and of course a face mask.
My current favorites from the previous week are Dior Capture Totale One Essential Ultra Detox Treatment Mask for its cooling gel texture and hydrating anti inflammatory/ anti aging properties & Caudalie Vinoperfect Enzymatic Peel Mask for the amazing skin renewing radiance that my dull skin needs when suffering from a cold. A face mask is the best way to introduce a surge of skin boosting ingredients in a short time frame. Whenever my energy level is low or when my face needs a refresher I pick up a face mask and dedicate 5 to 15 minutes of me-time before going on with my day.
There’s always time even just for a few minutes to maintain healthy skin habits!
Considering the last month passed me by with a quickness, from a ridiculous schedule of writing, work and makeup bookings, I managed to test and fall in love with many new and old beauty favorites. Currently my voice feels completely raspy and while I feel like recuperating after a night of discomfort from cough attacks and a stuffy nose I’ve chosen to work on some writing from my new Mac Book Air thanks to my husband.
Cheers to the beauty products that captured my love recently:
- Carol’s Daughter Manoi Oil: Applying this smoothing hair oil gets me a compliment literally every time I wear it. Having really dark black hair (yes that is possible) that is naturally really deep in tone makes it difficult to add dimension in between hair cuts. Adding a boost of shine always makes me love this delicious hair treat.
- Jurlique Fruit Enzyme Exfoliator: Intentionally, I decided to use up all of the physical exfoliators in my stash before using this one solely as my clear skin fix for the past month and I can’t say enough about what a difference this stimulating product does. Twice a week, place a thin layer of this tingly lightweight fluid over the entire face for a few minutes and reveal a totally refreshed, bright, smooth skin perfect for the dull skin weather that comes around when the seasons change. Those sensitive to abrasive scrubs will love this bead-free formula made of organic ingredients!
- Lush Oatfix Fresh Face Mask: I recently ran out of a clay mask that was a favorite and thought I would give the Oatfix mask a try as a purifying skin treat. At first application the scent drew me in as it literally smells like a bowl of breakfast with the banana and fresh oatmeal base. Who doesn’t love a lovely scent of sweet banana?
- Kure Bazaar Nail Polish: Let’s face it the French have an edge on many things including the amazing nail lacquers from Kure Bazaar. Opaque, full coverage application in just one swipe is what keeps me coming back to this beautiful formula made of natural and organic ingredients. Try it once, and you’ll know what I’m talking about!
- Inglot Matte Eyeshadow: Matte eyeshadows and I have a bit of a love hate relationship as I love the idea of them but never are drawn to purchasing matte eye shadows when I shop. I knew when I was in Newport Fashion Island that Inglot was one of the shops I really needed to explore since they have a pretty large selection of high pigmented shadows including mattes. I picked up a matte Navy and have my eye on a couple greens and warm browns for next time.
- Eyemimo False Eyelashes: On a fluke browse through Instagram, I saw a post for the Eyemimo Cosmetics Eyelash sample sale and since I’ve been obsessed with eyelashes this season I decided to order a couple pairs since they were only $1.50. I liked them so much that I placed a second order while the sale was still going on since the quality and look of the lashes were quite impressive.
- Dior Forever Foundation: This was the first foundation from Dior I was hooked on when I started working for the brand several years ago. The texture is really breathable with a medium to full coverage finish and most importantly the refined effect it provides lasts well, forever! Since my days are usually quite long it is a total plus to have a long wearing formula that feels weightless.
This last week was a challenging week from sending a much loved family member to his uplifted home in heaven to professional obstacles – there were many solemn moments of reflections for me to endure; not to mention nearly losing my voice from a traveling household cold.
A conversation a couple days ago brought me flashbacks to a heartbreaking professional conversation that happened in the previous year. I had tears remembering that gut wrenching feeling of someone you admire dearly saying the opposite of what you thought was going to be proclaimed. I may be young in age but my soul is mature and I will forever believe that my goals are attainable because I know myself.
In general, I consider myself someone with a strong will and thankfully news that truly frustrated me in the working environment did not only motivate me to think creatively but it brought me to great analytical thought over what my personal value truly is. So often I review products, ingredients and recap events but do not give myself a moment to soak in newfound accomplishments.
Though I felt defeated I am not one to stay down for long. I took a bold move in lieu of basking in disappointment and put my heart/soul onto paper for someone who did not immediately believe in my talents and I’m confident that she will not forget my name. As I discovered my passion at a young age, I decided to absorb all of life’s experiences and prepare for the moments of life when discouraged opportunities turn into points of difference between success and regret.
On that note, a new week has begun move with your heart and creative mind in tact and anything is tangible.
When this luxuriously presented makeup portfolio arrived, I literally gasped at how beautiful the colors were at first glance. As an obvious color fan I was delighted to receive the gorgeous 25 Shades of Baked Eye Palette from Laura Geller Beauty. This QVC exclusive is an impressive array of wearable, bold, dramatic and vibrant shades to fulfill any makeup look for fall/winter seasons and beyond. Since the colors are conveniently packaged in a chic matte black packaging and generous mirror it makes getting ready quite enjoyable! The shimmering jewel tones and rich pigments make this a must have for any makeup collector.
The above swatches are all 25 shades shown dry and the below has the swatches showing dry shades on the left and the wet version of the same shade.
& here are my two favorite colors from the palette on my eyes the top pic features Laura Geller Beauty Khaki and the bottom photo features the Cobalt shade:

Friday’s makeup look revolved around two things: strategic highlighting and a graphic eyeliner. One of my favorite trends that has made a comeback in the last year is a graphic eyeliner but many visuals reveal a severe black gel eyeliner so I decided to wear the trend in a more colorful option. I paired Lush Emotional Brilliance Eye Liner in In Charge and Cargo Cosmetics Babylon Eye Shadow to create this play on a fall beauty trend. Since the eyes were more intense, my complexion was soft with just a bit of concealer highlighting with my current favorite, Illamasqua Skin Base Lift concealer in shade Medium 1.
I’m wearing Dior Forever Foundation, Dior Matte Bronzer, Dior Blush, Eyeko Black Magic Mascara, Cargo Cosmetics Chestnut eye shadow in my brows, Stila Lip Glaze on my lips, Illamasqua Skin Base Lift Concealer, Lush Emotional Brilliance Eye Liner in In Charge and Cargo Cosmetics Babylon Eye Shadow and Chantecaille Wild Horses Palette on my eyelids.
If there is one thing I love about meeting with old friends is the nostalgia and reminiscing that comes along with it. It feels like lifetimes ago but in my Junior year of high school I was sitting in the back of Geology class with a compact open lining my eyes with MAC’s Black Tied eye shadow and an angle brush and noticed a girl across the way who had a little shimmering makeup assortment in front of her also. Lauren and I could go on playing and talking about products literally forever! Fast forward to our adult lives we remained connected and to no surprise we are both beauty bloggers, makeup artists, skin care obsessed and beauty addicts. We were long overdue for a meetup so we stopped by the new Lemonade in Fashion Island n Newport Beach for a food coma of delicious treats. It’s always refreshing to have someone who is in the same industry striving for similar goals. We share stories of the politics of cosmetics, networking adventures and share our latest beauty finds; it’s a good time!
I had the ‘small portions’ of Lemon Mushroom Couscous, Meatballs and Truffle Mac and Cheese with a Peach Ginger Lemonade. $16 of deliciousness!
After lunch, we parted ways and I decided to stop by two of my favorite places: Inglot and Lush. I love both of these beauty spots because the atmosphere is creative and the people are friendly. From Inglot, I picked up a matte navy eye shadow and a rusty orange shimmering shade. My eye was drawn to a deep emerald green and vibrant matte orange but unfortunately they were out of stock. Lush has some of the most unique products for bath, skin and body care not to mention a killer makeup line. I walked in just to check out what’s new and found some lovely new items including adorable penguins, metallic treats and a mini Santa!
For some reason I didn’t take any pics at Inglot but I snapped a stream of pics at Lush!
Check out Lauren’s blog by clicking here! Visit Inglot’s only boutique in California at Fashion Island in Newport Beach; they offer a pro discount which is always a plus and check out the Lush shop while you’re there to see some cruelty free creative finds for smelling and feeling refreshed!
Whenever the image of someone applying makeup in the car comes to mind I cringe at the thought of uneven face symmetry and horrible blending but this morning I was guilty of having a 405 Freeway traffic glamming session.
I have mastered makeup application on myself knowing exactly where to apply products without looking with the exception of my eyebrows which I refuse to do without proper mirror time. Often even at home, I can literally do my entire face pretty spot on minus brows with no mirror. This morning I applied my eye shadow primer, eye shadows, eyeliner, foundation, concealer, bronzer, blush and loose powder all on the way to work (which is usually a thirty minute to an hour drive).
Of course for more intricate makeup days when a precise liner or extravagant eye makeup plays a part in my overall look of the day than an on the go glamming session is not the best idea but this morning was an early one and I had no choice but to glam it on the freeway. I applied my eyes and cheek products with a brush and blended all of my face makeup with just my fingertips. The lashes were a last minute addition I threw on right after I parked.
Here’s what I used: Cover FX Total Cover Cream Foundation G40, Illamasqua Skin Base Lift Concealer Medium 1, Koh Gen Do UV Translucent powder, Chantecaille Matte Eye Shadow in Celestine and the Wild Horses Palette, Chantecaille Blush in Ecstacy, Cover FX Matte Bronzer, Kardashian Beauty Navy Eyeliner, Cle De Pea Lip Luminizer in #203 & Katy Perry for Eyelure Eyelashes.
This morning I woke up feeling very nasal and sick but that’s nothing a Soy Caramel Machiatto, a lot of water and makeup can’t fix.
It sounds ridiculous but makeup transforms my mood all the time. Whatever emotion I’m feeling there is always a calm that hits my body when I pick up a makeup brush and start creating the perfect blend. Since my throat and nose was causing me to feel low energy, I picked up my colorful Crown Brush palette that I purchased during a Hautelook Beauty Sale last month and started pairing random colors together.
Here is my makeup of the day that got me out of my sick funk:
What I used: Prepped my skin first with Jurlique Hydrating Lavender mist, Chantecaille UV50, vbeaute Eye Never EYe Cream, Cargo Cosmetics Chestnut through my brows, Dior Forever Foundation #030, Cover FX concealer G30, Dior Matte Bronzer #003, Koh Gen Do UV translucent powder, Motives Cosmetics Lipgloss in Passion, Dior Lash Maximizer, Eyeko Black Magic Mascara & Crown Brush Palette (the cobalt blue, dark purple and pale blue shades)
One of my all time favorite things about fall is seeing red lip colors emerge out of every makeup brand. The iconic lip color is synonymous with not only old Hollywood vintage glamour but with autumn fashion trend each year because the rich shade of red is always complementary to the breezy weather. It’s like the ultimate declaration that summer is over when I hide my bright pinks and turn my attention to my red lip collection. Making a major comeback this year is orange-red lip shades; a warm twist on the dark reds seen in the past few fall seasons. See a full list of my orange red lips faves, by clicking here.
Also, here are some swatches and info on a couple standouts in my personal collection: Top Avon Ultra Color Lipstick in Tangerine Tango, Middle Chantecaille Persimmon, Bottom Marc Jacobs Beauty Lovemarc Lip Gel in All the Way.
For timid beauty fans, try a sheer lip gloss instead of a full on, opaque lipstick. Try the amazing Kelly Tee Garden Organics lip gloss in shade ‘red’ it has a seriously useful light up wand and side mirror for touch ups in any setting.
& if you’re like me with big lips, a long wearing lipstick is a total necessity. I recently saw the new formulation of the Dior Rouge Dior Lipsticks and love the classic #999 shade that made Dior so famous for killer lipstick with its luxe feel and full coverage finish. I don’t have the new packaging, I’m debating if I should purchase it (more on that later) but if you scroll down to my post ‘Dior In My Heart’ there is a photo of my hand with swatches that shows the red #999 color in the center of my hand. There are three majorly addictive orange-red lipsticks that have made it to my collection from Avon, Chantecaille and Marc Jacobs which are so beautiful and carry an impressive wear and pigment. (Thank you Avon and Chantecaille for sending over these beauties my way). All have a moisturizing feel but don’t slip of the lips easily. Love that!
What’s your fall season beauty favorite?
Last night I had the pleasure of doing makeup for the LA Live & Lucky Strike Presents Karaoke Runway Gala in Downtown Los Angeles benefiting the St. Baldrick’s Foundation to support the battle against childhood cancers.
All of the models were so sweet and I was flattered to have a line of beauties waiting for me to work some makeup magic on them. It was a challenge doing makeup in an extra dark VIP room but I had help from my sister, Grace and her friend Courtney with a makeshift iPhone flashlight action to make sure my work was on point. There’s always something about the energy of a behind the scenes fashion show that immediately draws me in; every detail is driven by passionate people.
Me with my makeup set up behind the scenes in the VIP room while the models had a meeting with the designers.
Three of the beauties I worked with last night, love the chunky necklaces and printed fabrics.
Dramatic eyes + pale lips was the look of night which meant I reached for my Chantecaille, Urban Decay, Cargo Cosmetics and Dior eye shadows for the perfect smoky eyes and Maybelline Whisper and Laura Geller lipsticks mixed with a little Illamasqua Skin Base Lift concealer on the lips. The skin was matte and flawless thanks to Cover FX Total Cover Cream Foundation, Sleek Makeup Cream to Powder, Illamasqua Skin Base Lift concealer blended with a damp brush spritzed with L’Occitane rosewater facial mist and set the complexion with Makeup Forever High Definition powder. To shape the face I used Dior Matte Bronzer, Jane Iredale Mineral Bronzer, Cover FX Matte Bronzer, Dior Blush in Peechy Keen, Dior Rosy Glow Blush and La Femme Blush in Sienna. To make sure the makeup stayed in place I primed the skin with BECCA Cosmetics Ever Matte Poreless Priming Perfector on the skin, Urban Decay Primer Potion in Eden
and vBeaute Lip Spread on the lips.
photos are mine & shown with no filter. (You can see it was really dark where I was working!)
& a special thank you to my Girl, Christine Thank you for always thinking of me. You’ve seen me grow up from my first days behind the counter to now! You looked fab last night.
