Sephora & Frends Beauty Haul

As a true beauty junkie, my two favorite places to stock my personal and professional makeup kit are Sephora and Frends Beauty Supply.

From Sephora, I purchased 3 items with a 10% off code I had been saving after renewing my VIB status and got a couple freebies including a YSL Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stain sample trio, Anastasia Beverly Hills brow powder and Phyto Express Conditioner for fine hair.

I decided to finally get a full sized version of the Nars Pro Prime Eyeshadow primer; it is the best eye primer that makes any eye shadow completely smudge resistant. I also picked up my favorite Josie Maran Bear Naked Nail Wipes. These have a pleasant grapefruit scent and remove polish while infusing the nail bed with natural hydrators. Lastly, the Sephora Collection Pro Brow Comb #21 is an essential brush for separating eyelashes and keeping brows perfectly groomed into place.

During a drive down the 101 Freeway yesterday, I decided to drop into the Frends Beauty Supply Showroom in North Hollywood. After about a year of shopping the Frends Beauty website, it was an exciting moment to actually walk around in the actual store getting to see some of the niche pro makeup artist products available. Since it was a quick visit, I picked up eyelashes for some upcoming bridal work, Duo dark tone glue, one of my favorite brushes – Morphe C139 Stiff Tap Eye Brush and a fresh bottle of Beauty So Clean Cosmetic Sanitizer Mist.

All of these items will be put to good work and once again, my beauty cravings have been fulfilled!

Spring Makeup Inspiration

There must be something about the familiar Socal sun post a few gloomy weather days that makes me cling to cheerful spring beauty with feminine glossy pink lips and clean radiant skin. I almost never go for the same makeup look multiple times in a one week span but this refreshing contemporary chic spring color story has been my go-to makeup of the day three times in the past seven days. Here are a few favorite products I’ve been using to achieve a dewy complexion & wearable spring lip look.

*** All of the photos in this post feature the products mentioned below for a glowing complexion and glossy pink lips!

An idea Spring complexion should look and feel effortlessly transparent. Of course the right skin care regime including a routine of proper exfoliation provides an easy canvas for overall skin clarity but a key component is the right foundation. Choose a foundation formula that offers coverage without a heavy texture and a natural glowing finish. My current spring complexion picks are Koh Gen Do Aqua Foundation & Chantecaille Future Skin Foundation. Koh Gen Do Aqua Foundation leaves the skin looking flawless with a satin finish and liquid airy feel. It features hydration boosting ingredients like natural vegetable glycerin and algae to extend the feeling of comfort while diffusing imperfections with mineral pigments. Chantecaille Future Skin Foundation is an innovative oil free gel foundation made with ingredients like Chamomile, antioxidants and sea weed to smooth and perfect the skin’s natural appearance. It offers a buildable coverage and photographs beautifully!

For lips there is nothing quite like a soft pink lip to bring a delicate charm to a spring makeup look. Coming from a major lip product junkie, it is difficult to choose a favorite pink lip but a couple current obsessions are Urban Decay Revolution Lipsticks and Too Faced La Creme Color Drenched Lipsticks. Urban Decay’s sleek gun metal packaging houses a high impact pigment paired with a comfortable creamy lip bullet. Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in shade Protest is a perfect pink that marries edgy and femme for a powerful pout. Too Faced La Creme Lipstick formula leaves lips feeling supple and plump with just enough color to brighten any makeup look. Shade Marshmallow Bunny from Too Faced is a sweet pink so perfect for a day to night makeup look. Pair either of these with Chantecaille Luminous Lipgloss in Framboise – a vibrant strawberry hue.

Keep it simple for spring!  Will you try this easy makeup look?

Reviving my taste for color

It is true most makeup artists love the comfort of all black but it is my 2014 goal to revive my love for prints, brights and adventurous styling that was once a daily love of mine prior to the black revolution happening in my closet circa 2005.

Working in the cosmetics industry for nearly 10 years equates to a closet (and drawers) full of black. As fashion has always brought varying textures of chiffon, lace, structured panels and pleats to my overflowing wardrobe of black work attire my new love for color has brought increasing attention from clients and professional contacts.

Here’s a look at some of my recent obsessions: a mix of vintage fashion finds, bold colors & spring time floral prints.

Cheers to New Adventures

‘You cannot achieve your dreams by keeping them to yourself,’ is advice that a professional mentor told me years ago and in the last six weeks, that advice brought me closer to a tangible reality I’ve been waiting so patiently for.

Always trust in yourself that whatever you desire in life can be made truth. Believe in the goals you set and without hesitation: say it out loud, tell someone who will help you succeed and ignore the No’s that come in your direction. The more you fight for what you want, there is confidence that breeds positive outcomes.

There’s no doubt this new year has been one of the most eventful and exciting weeks in a long time however at the same time I’ve struggled with catching a cold from my daughter or my husband and its been a crazy circle of everyone getting sick . Thankfully it was nothing serious and I’m ready to stay connected and post more frequently to keep my website up to date.

I have some new photos and great stories to share of inspiring encounters and full circle experiences that have brought some joyful moments in my life but for now: Hello and thank you to my loyal/new subscribers who have been visiting my site and supporting my craft.

Lipstick Diaries

Last week, as I was confirming some important dates for January I found myself sharing my excitement over being invited to IMATS LA with my four year old to which a scream and smile burst from her little mouth made me laugh.

Of course IMATS is a foreign term and she did not know that it stands for International Makeup Artist Trade Show but I did explain that it is a huge makeup event with never ending brushes, makeup and artists. Unlike the average preschooler, my daughter is quite a creative mind and love Kandee Johnson YouTube videos, singing Disney’s Frozen songs and Designer lipsticks like no other little girl I’ve seen. Not only is she an expert when it comes to knowing where to apply ‘highlight in the inner corner,’ and other makeup tricks but she genuinely says she loves makeup because she wants to be like mommy.

Here’s a photo of her holding one of my fave lipsticks from YSL, Fuchsia in Rage Rouge Volupte with my Dior Powder compact.

& here she is her with a Beauty Blender, pink by her request of course, I bought  as one of her Christmas gifts.

Whether her future holds being an artist or just looking fabulous she already has some luxury taste when it comes to beauty!

Friday Motivation

In a rather strange encounter this week I found myself in the middle of a sort of ‘powerful’ group of women in the beauty industry to which I observed an interesting thought process.

Possibly in another universe somewhere it would be normal to have four powerful women standing deep in thought over the bland idea of moving a fixture 15 steps left of its original location or laying a photo flat instead of upright. Why would it be more important to discuss a chair or a photo over the talent in the four walls of the boutique? During the timeframe of this rousing conversation there was a major marathon of smiling clients and one superstar making it happen but alas the productivity was over- shined by a stagnant fixture.

Anyway in a more uplifting notion, I reconnected with one of my favorite people this morning via phone and without saying a word she told me ‘I can tell you are worried about something… You are so very talented in everything you do and that is a gift not many can proclaim.’ She always knows when I need an extra bit of motivation; leave it to retail connections to bring nonsense back to reality!

Here is my favorite MOTD featuring two lip favorites: Cle De Peau Extra Rich Lipstick + Nars Lipgloss & a new Favorite Combo the new Alexa Chung For Eyeko Eye Do Mascara and Eye Do Liquid Eyeliner LImited Edition now at Sephora! On my face I am wearing Dior Forever Foundation, Illamasqua Skin Base Lift Concealer, Koh Gen Do UV powder, La Femme + Chantecaille blushes, Cargo Cosmetics + Becca Cosmetics Eye shadows and Ardell false lashes.

Don’t let anyone outshine you!

Happy Friday!

Acrylic Storage to the Rescue

20140105-234044.jpg

In the spirit of fresh starts via welcoming 2014, I have decided to set mental goals for both personal and professional undertakings including organizing my ridiculous beauty collection. As generous press samples come my way I often get a bit overzealous and use products once they arrive at my doorstep but forget I have them and end up with a pile of once or twice used lipsticks and such. As one can imagine, with weekly new arrivals my collection could win in a head to head battle against my daughter’s Disney princess memorabilia.

Since purchasing my first Muji case over 3 months ago, I’ve been eyeing the website to buy more acrylic storage. If someone representing Muji is somehow reading my blog, Please open a boutique near me! I know they just opened a shop in Hollywood but the traffic alone makes online shopping a more attractive option. Just yesterday, Fedex delivered the 5 drawer acrylic unit that I stacked on top of my 3 drawer unit and I am in love all over again!

20140105-234031.jpg

The ease of seeing products lined up and in an easy access counter top place is a world of difference between opening multiple train cases. Acrylic storage makes such a difference for someone with a beauty collection as large as mine for easy compartmental organization and visibility; it is a total priority in my book.

Also a great find is a clear 6 compartment open unit that I found at Target over the last few days. It was labeled “medicine cabinet organizer” or something to that nature in the home/bathroom section. I purchased one for under $8 on Friday with the intention of cleaning up my bedside makeup removal station and liked it so much I went back on Saturday to purchase another one! I now have one that holds cotton, a cleansing water from Dr. Brandt that I am testing out, Ahava’s Eye Makeup Remover, Creme Abricot cuticle treatment from Dior, Muji Cotton and a few other tidbits next to my bed and one that I placed on top of my Muji Cases on my bathroom vanity with complexion, lip balms & eye makeup products.

Next on my organizing agenda is to save for 2 more Z Palettes & 1 more Vueset!

Multitasking to the extreme

Happy New Year!

This morning I woke up & watched my 4 year old princess carefully choose her outfit that included studded ankle boots, a patchwork design dress with navy blue leggings then listened to her creative story about how she will get ready for her ice skating birthday party this month. I took her to preschool and my working morning began.

I just spent the last 2 hours confirming product samples and sending article links to a long list of some great PR contacts. A plus to that is I did it all in my CSUF Alumni sweatshirt, no makeup and a top knot while I brainstormed some new article ideas for Examiner.com. I have about 20 minutes to now glam myself up for work while I reply to some makeup client inquiries via phone.

Complicated? A little bit but at least 2014 is looking productive!

How are you starting your Thursday Morning?

Goodbye 2013

December in my eyes was a reminder that I can breathe life I to more projects than I thought was possible because my talent and passion for what I do is greater than what some may see.

20131229-211822.jpg>>> Some of my fave December MOTDs!

Looking into my day, it is a constant from rise to sleep hustle of writing, booking clients, continuing professional relationships with the right people and proving myself over and over and over and over… and over to the same handful of people while gaining more Rochelle believers.  I have dreamed of being a luxury beauty educator for a longgggggg time. I know that in this constantly evolving industry being proficient as a makeup artist or skincare lover is not enough so I have programmed myself to chase this goal by becoming an innovator in the idea of what a beauty expert means.

In 2013 my life has become a multi-channel machine. In real life I have makeup clients searching for my work on social media while international beauty executives read my writing via a link passed on by Public Relations Firms that I have never met in person. The internet brings cross country and international fans following me for up to date articles featuring trending, new and pro makeup finds.

This year, I met innovative brand founder of British brand Illamasqua (more on that in a post coming soon) thanks to a PR contact, surpassed my personal goal of branding my own website with consistent traffic and decided to voice my personal goals to professional contacts in the hope of turning my lifelong dream into a reality. There is always uncertainty and hope that comes with a new year which always makes life interesting, right?

Goodbye 2013. Happy New Year Followers and friends!

Explain to me what you do again?

I have a massive respect for people who think creatively and push boundaries since as I often find it quite exhausting building my growing empire. I’m a writer, makeup artist, ingredient dictionary, skincare lover, blogger, aspiring luxury beauty trainer, media specialist, mommy, wife and I’m branding my name so remember Rochelle Delossantos because my job title hasn’t been invented yet.

Branding myself and skills quite frequently makes life complicated as when meeting others who have a 9-5. Recently in mommy life Tessa has become close with an adorable little girl to whose kind family we’ve been building a connection with via play dates and technology exchanging emails and so forth which has brought up one of those head scratching moments for me. What do you do? What does that mean? So what is your job? Always seems to be a streaming line of questions when I introduce myself to new acquaintances.

Having been in the professional industry of beauty and media for almost 10 years there is a serious trend toward blurred lines as far as job descriptions. As a writer I’ve developed relationships with so many lovely PR executives, brand owners, product creators and people who I admire in the broad spectrum of other creative minds in the industry.  Writing and posting onto the web is a more complicated process than the average person imagines. It often takes, days, weeks, even months to craft specific ideas into one 150-400 word article. The work of a makeup artist is no longer just a makeup artist but more often a social media strategist, self made marketing expert and serious hustler i.e. the Pixiwoo sisters, Kandee Johnson, Michelle Pham and Lisa Eldridge.

At 26 I feel like I’ve accomplished so much yet am still inching my way to the dream job… well multi-tasking woman of many hats type  of job. Until then, I am Rochelle Delossantos and the list of my job description is never ending but in a nutshell I’m a Beauty Expert. Nice to meet you.
